This is a blog about polar lows – the coolest weather phenomenon on the planet. The site is maintained by Erik and Tom. We’re going to post articles about some interesting cases as well as more general information about PLs.

Erik Kolstad is a research scientist at Uni Research Climate and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research in Bergen, Norway. I wrote my Ph.D. thesis on polar lows and cold air outbreaks and have worked on polar weather since 2003. I worked on the Norwegian International Polar Year project IPY-THORPEX from 2007 to 2010, and am currently working on improving the forecasting of polar lows in the Arctic.

Tom Bracegirdle is a researcher at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge, UK.
